Responsive Design
Sep 25, 2011
extrachris.com is now responsive. I've been wanting to do this for a while, it is a great way to display the website in a appropriately for multiple devices. Right now it works well for the iPad and iPhone. I know android uses Webkit, so I'm not super worried— although I need to use an emulator to make sure I don't need to define a few more sizes. Responsive design breaks down for me when you get a ton of content. I'm thinking mobile devices should have Mobile UI (a little different than web UI) for a situation like this. Jquery Mobile comes to mind. It could be a different content strategy for Mobile as well. It could be both. I know this is a hot area of debate right now, but with most things, I think everyone is right.... depending on the situation.
Hash House 11 Years T Shirts
Sep 5, 2011
The Hash House a go go 11 years of operation Ts just arrived and I'm stoked. They came out really cool— we searched around for a nice premium heathered charcoal and found it. We got kids sizes this time, as well as fitted for the ladies. As you can see, the girls Ts are a hit.
And AT&T rejoices

Customers when asked, universally do not understand Video Encoding costs in the Cloud. This has to do in part with the variability of encoding times based on content. So, I just came up with this pricing scheme with Eric Quanstrom. Electricity model. Turn your servers off and on, pay when they are on. Add options and the price goes up and down per encoding hour. It reminds me of my AT&T bill, which formerly seemed to have teleported from the 11th plane of hell. I think it will work for people, and it is easy to use.
Fun with Acrylics, Sorenson Bloom.

Ok, so I've finally gotten around to painting the logo for Sorenson Media's San Diego office lounge. It turned out pretty cool, and is more interesting than the sign I got for the entry. The UCSD painting class turned out to be useful. Branding abounds.
The Shopping Cart Reconstructed
Sep 5, 2011
We wanted to improve the effectiveness of our old school php shopping interface and back end. I redesigned the shopping cart workflow and the copy. Along with Andrew Aschbacher's serious web development skills here is the new Sorenson Shopping cart & Free Trial workflow. We used some ninja javascript to display the cart on one page with options presented only as needed. We know from studying user interaction, shopping carts have a high bailure rate. We felt by reducing it to one step, embracing the scroll, and providing a simple interactive page, we could improve our conversion. Conversions increased 18% and free trials increased by almost 100%!! Try it at Sorenson Media.
